Frequently Asked Questions

Do you accept insurance?

Harbor is a primarily private pay practice, however some of our counselors do accept insurance and would need to discuss this on an individual basis. We are able to provide a superbill or receipt to apply for out-of-network reimbursement from your insurance company if they provide such benefits, but how much they cover will vary depending on the situation. We also do accept HSA and FSA payment.

How much do sessions cost and how long will our sessions last?

Each individual counseling session is $125 for 50 minutes. Couples or family sessions are $140 for 60 minutes. Couples intensives (3-5 hour sessions) and premarital packages are available for a discounted rate per hour.

Several of our counselors provide a sliding scale or discounted counseling as a part of completing hours required for licensure. Please mention a desire for these options when you contact us.

Other costs may include optional assessments, a small credit card fee, and late cancellations/no show fees. All of these will be included in your practice policies when you begin therapy.

Are you a faith-based or Christian practice?

Harbor is not a faith-based practice, but we are equipped to incorporate spiritual direction into our sessions if that is your need or desire. Spirituality is a part of every human being, but we believe in your autonomy to choose how to engage with that part of your life and lead us in how to care for you best.

We know that people have been hurt or abused by religion. It is our deepest desire to provide a welcoming, inclusive, non-judgmental environment within our office. We respect everyone’s religious preference or lack thereof and are most concerned about fully seeing people, communicating their value and loving them well.

If I’ve never been to counseling before, what will it be like?

We begin with a consultation call to chat a little about what you need and how we can be helpful to you. This call is free and will last about 15 minutes. Next, we will schedule a first session. When you arrive, you can make yourself some tea or coffee in our waiting room and your counselor will invite you into their office when your session begins. We will review your informed consent, practice policy questions, and intake information with you and then let you fill us in on what you’ve been experiencing, what your goals are and what you’d like to work on. If we have time, we will review some family history or significant life events. And before you know it, you will be done with your first session and able to decide where we go from there.

As we move forward, we will meet weekly or every other week. You can expect to get more perspective on your current problem through the lens of your past, experience new emotions and insight, and learn tools and skills to make change.
